In Western Australia, in 1996, a young veterinary surgeon takes her own life, overcome by the intense stress of her profession and haunted by the abuse she once suffered from an alcoholic father. She is survived by her grandmother, Ruth MacDonald, who must come to terms not only with the sudden death of her beloved granddaughter but with the news that she herself has terminal cancer.

Determined to do some good with the last few months of her life, Ruth agrees to take in a boarder, a pilot whose life has been shattered by a tragic flying accident. She gives Michael Andrews the secret diaries of her dead granddaughter in the hope that what he might learn from reading them could save his life and once more give him reason to live.

Green Dream is the story of the tragic life and death of an innocent young woman, of the compassion, strength and wisdom of her dying grandmother, and of the triumphant survival of an injured man inspired by them both.

Read this novel

Recife, Brazil, 1992. The quiet life of ruined stockbroker Bob Richards is thrown into chaos when he brokers the sale of a famous diamond necklace, Les larmes des anges, to the Chief of Military Police. The deal turns sour when the merchandise is stolen and falls into the hands of street kids. Enraged, the general orders the homeless children of the city killed one by one until the necklace is recovered.

Accused of being an informant, Richards finds himself fighting for the lives of the so-called little devils, urged on by a naive charity worker, Susan Harris-Smythe, a woman who claims the violent street kids are not devils but angels.

In the tropical heat of Pernambuco, Richards finds no one as innocent as they seem. Not even in love.

The fable follows the lives of two young professionals, Jane Hamilton and Joe Mathews, who are on the fast track to promotion - and to burnout. They have everything they could possibly want, except peace of mind and happiness. Until they meet their guardian angel.
